Donna Torres is a Miami-based artist and illustrator who recently retired from her role as an adjunct painting professor at Florida International University. Her work in painting and drawing centers on plants, people, and culture. Donna specializes in plants used as medicine for the body and spirit. Her art aims to help audiences see nature’s intricate beauty in new ways, fostering deeper emotional and ecological awareness. Her latest solo exhibition, “The Radiance of Proximity at Miami International Airport,” featured paintings and drawings. Her illustrations of medicinal plants and those used in shamanism have been widely published. Current projects include paintings used as frontispieces for works by Jonathan Ott and collaborations with Synergetic Press on illustrations for the upcoming Ethnopharmacologic Search for Psychoactive Drugs [55], edited by Dennis McKenna. She is also working on a series of paintings dedicated to female plant explorers.
