On March 20, Frédérique Apffel-Marglin, Professor Emerita of Anthropology at Smith College, spoke about her latest book, Subversive Spiritualities: How Rituals Enact the World. This talk was part of the "African, Diasporic, and Indigenous Religions in Conversation" series at the Center for the Study of World Religions at HDS.
The book draws on a lifetime of work with the indigenous peoples of Peru and India to support her argument that the beliefs, values, and practices of such peoples hold keys to 're-entangling' humans with nature and rekindling community amongst humans as well as between humans and the other-than-human world.
